Developed in conjunction with clinicians, this medical equipment incorporates advanced anesthesia therapy, patient monitoring, and sophisticated ventilation capabilities.
Advanced ventilation with GE’s SmartVent technology helps clinicians meet the needs of a broad range of patients.
GE’s Advanced Breathing System (ABS) features small breathing system volume, allowing response to fresh gas changes quickly. This is true even during low flow anesthesia. Detachable ABS and multi absorber canisters make delays avoidable.
The Avance Carestation is engineered with expanded clinical capabilities, including Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation (SIMV), PSV Pro (Pressure Support with Apnea backup) and Pressure Control Ventilation - Volume Guaranteed (PCV-VG) for all of the advantages of pressure ventilation with the added security of consistent tidal volume.
Sophisticated ventilation capabilities with the 7900 SmartVent support the needs of a diverse patient range. Ventilation modes available include:
- PCV-VG
- Volume Control
- Pressure Control
- PSVPro
- SIMV (Volume and Pressure)
- Manual ventilation
- Avance employs the Advanced Breathing System (ABS), designed to enable uncomplicated gas delivery for anesthesia procedures. Small breathing system volume means the ABS can respond to fresh gas changes quickly. This remains true even during low-flow anesthesia.
- The ABS includes a manually operated bag to ventilator switch.
- The no-tool disassembly enhances timely cleaning and maintenance. The ABS is autoclavable, so sterilization is not a complex procedure.
- Each gas is simultaneously monitored on multiple sensors. The respective gas sample is measured and maintained at standard temperature and pressure (STP).
- Modular agent analysis gives anesthetic measurement with automated agent identification in addition to patient spirometry for both comprehensive and integrated evaluations of your patient’s ventilatory status.
- Consistent menus, rapid key actions, and alarm management for intuitive use.
- With its low circuit volume, the ABS responds to fresh gas changes quickly and during low-flow anesthesia.
- Using single touch points for enabling ventilation, the clinician interface is both consistent and intuitive throughout the range.
- Removal or disassembly requires no tools, allowing cleaning and maintenance to be done almost anywhere. The ABS is autoclavable.
- The 7900 SmartVent employs a digital flow valve like those found in a majority of critical care ventilators, and has been adapted for anesthesia ventilation applications.
- Ventilation capability includes PCV-VG Volume Control, Pressure Control, PSVPro, SIMV (Volume and Pressure), and manual ventilation.
- The SmartVent’s advanced modes, PCV-VG, SIMV with Pressure Support, and PSVPro (Pressure Support with Apnea backup mode), enhance the clinical capabilities of the Avance to help tailor the ventilation therapy to whatever is deemed appropriate for your patient.
- With an adjustable flow trigger, electronic PEEP and an apnea backup mode, the SIMV and PSVPro modes can streamline the task of providing proper care for spontaneously breathing patients.
Patient compliance in the lungs changes breath by breath. Pressure Control helps maximize allowable time for gas exchange while delivering the same volume regardless of changes in compliance.
PCV-VG delivers the same tidal volume with all the benefits of Pressure Control Ventilation.
- PCV-VG is designed to make sure your patient receives the same volume regardless of compliance changes triggered by packs, retractors, position, surgical exposure, or relaxation.
- Provides consistent tidal volume in the face of compliance changes.
- In PCV-VG, the Smartvent 7900 maintains the preset tidal volume with low pressure by employing a decelerating flow.
- The initial breath delivered to the patient is volume-controlled. This is viewable on-screen with a 'square' flow waveform as well as a 'shark-fin' pressure waveform.
- Patient compliance is calculated from this volume breath, and the inspiratory pressure level is then determined for the subsequent PCV-VG breaths. PCV-VG breaths are characterized by a decelerating flow waveform and a square pressure waveform.
The GE Healthcare 7900 SmartVent's advanced feature PSVPro (Pressure Supported Ventilation) expands the clinical capabilities of the Anesthesia Delivery portfolio to help meet the needs of your patients.
With a wide patient range capability, an adjustable flow trigger, PEEP, and apnea backup mode, the PSVPro mode makes the task of caring for your spontaneously breathing patients less stressful. PSV supports spontaneous breathing through the supplementation of pressure to the airway responding to patient initiated breaths.
- As PSV occurs, once a breath is initiated the ventilator pressurizes the airway to a desired inspiratory support pressure (Psupport).
- The "Pro" piece of PSVPro refers to the apnea backup feature. After a clinician-selected time interval, apneic patients are mechanically ventilated through a SIMV pressure mode.
PSV Pro:
- Assists in overcoming the resistance within the breathing circuit and patient circuit, enabling a lessening in the patient's effort in breathing
- Helps counter the decrease in the patient’s functional residual capacity (FRC) and the reduction in muscle contraction due to administered anesthetics
- May be used with LMAs due to inherent lower airway pressures
- With automatic apnea backup mode, uses an SIMV-PC + PSV mode to maintain a minimum minute ventilation in the event the patient ceases spontaneous breathing.
- With adjustable inspiration termination, allows fine-tuning to the patient’s current breathing pattern.
- Supports virtually all spontaneous breaths
- Uses a decelerating flow pattern (optimizes inspiratory flow)
- Sustains or enhances the patient’s tidal volume and End Tidal CO2 maintenance
The GE Healthcare 7900 SmartVent features advanced SIMV (Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation) expanding the clinical capability of our anesthesia delivery equipment portfolio to help meet the needs of your practice.
With its broad patient range, an adjustable flow trigger and trigger window, the SIMV mode aids simplification of the work of caring for your spontaneously breathing patients.
SIMV is built to provide assured rates and tidal volumes in a modality supplementing the patient’s own spontaneous effort. By synchronizing to the patient, the ventilator responds to the breathing requirements of your patient.
Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation allows the ventilator to determine the patient's breathing and enable spontaneous breathing between mechanical ventilations. This while providing desired mandatory breaths in the event the patient’s own rate falls below a preset value.
Synchronization provided in SIMV mode means the ventilator will assist in a patient’s own breathing when that process falls within the synchronization window as set by the clinician. These synchronized ventilations are designed to help overcome difficulties which can be experienced when patients try to compete with controlled mechanical ventilation.
During the administration of general anesthesia, various agents are known to affect overall respiratory rate and volume. Among these are narcotics, inhalation agents, neuromuscular blocking agents, sedatives, or any combination of these. The application of SIMV is in keeping with its function to manage these situations providing for a minimum volume.
- SmartVent tidal volume compensation system operates in all mandatory breaths.
- Adjustable trigger window permits fine-tuning to the patient’s invividual breathing pattern.
- Respiratory rate is adjustable between 2 to 60 bpm.
- Provides assured rate and tidal volume for a minimum minute ventilation
- Automatic synchronization with mandatory breaths
- Improved synchronization of breaths helps the ventilator adapt to the patient's breathing needs
Aisys and Avance 8.x software features the ability to arm clinicians with tools they can use to automate lung procedures helping increase positive pressure in the airways. The lung ventilation procedures of Vital Capacity and Cycling may be useful in helping clinicians with patients experiencing lung complications during anesthesia.
- Vital Capacity: The Vital Capacity procedure automates the manual bag ‘squeeze and hold’. PEEP can be programmed at the conclusion of the procedure to help sustain an open lung.
- Cycling: Cycling is a procedure allowing the practitioner to configure a lung ventilation maneuver. Programmable steps enable increasing and decreasing PEEP levels during mechanical ventilation.
- Compliance trending: GE Carestations provide compliance measurements showing real time effectiveness of automated lung procedures.
A neonatal patient’s physiology and small physical size make effective mechanical ventilation much more challenging. With the Aisys and Avance Carestations running version 8.x software —designed and specified for neonatal patients—you can confidently deliver volumes as low as 5ml to the patient (In Pressure Mode Ventilation). Fast and accurate…what you set is what you get:
- Delivering tidal volumes as low as 5ml in PCV mode
- Precision volume and pressure delivery to the patient wye, breath by breath, to help reduce the challenges in managing neonatal and pediatric patients
- Pause Gas feature simplifies temporary circuit disconnects any time. One button temporarily stops all gas flows and suspends alarms, agent delivery, and ventilation, allowing time to focus on the patient
- Circuit Compliance Compensation ensures that what you set is what you get — showing precisely what is delivered to the patient, taking into account volume in the patient circuit
You requested sophisticated ventilation capabilities to help you meet the needs of your patient range. The Avance grants your request with the 7900 SmartVent ventilator. Ventilation capabilities include: Volume Control, Pressure Control, PSVPro, SIMV (Volume and Pressure), and manual ventilation.
The SmartVent employs a gas delivery system similar to that found in the majority of critical care ventilators. It has been adapted specifically for anesthesia applications and is readily controlled via our intuitive user interface.
The SmartVent’s latest modes: Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation (SIMV) with Pressure Support and PSVPro® (Pressure Support with Apnea backup mode) expand the clinical capabilities of the Avance. Pediatric patients, patients with laryngeal mask airways (LMAs) and those unable to tolerate certain anesthetic agents are examples of persons that have shown benefit from the use of these modes.
Setting the Standard for Electronic Gas Mixing
Unsurpassed response time and accuracy provide you with the ultimate in fresh gas control and efficiency.
- Low flow anesthesia supported: minimum gas flow of 150 mL/min.
- 500 millisecond mixer response time – even for dramatic flow changes. This allows you to deliver exactly what you want, precisely when you want it.
- Since the mixer delivers fresh gas directly to the inspiratory port upon your command, there is no fresh gas or agent wasted to “charge the circuit”. This facilitates low flow clinical practice – even when changing from very high to very low flows.
- Intuitive and fast setting of fresh gas flow mixture makes using our state-of-the-art gas mixer as effortless as possible.
- Dual flow sensing technology works to ensure safe operation. Gas flow is checked 200 times each second to insure the equipment is delivering the proper blend based on your setting.
- Electronic cylinder pressure sensing technology notifies you with an alert when cylinders are low.
- Alternate O2 control is designed to provide an independent fresh gas source and flow meter control when required – helping you to support your patient under a wide range of conditions, both anticipated and unforeseen.
Enhancing Your Productivity
Special features of the Avance are engineered to make it user friendly and enable you to direct more attention to your patient.- System checkout is fast and intuitive, with full-color photo images to illustrate each step and confirmation tones when each test is complete. A real-time clock displays the interval to complete each test and the date and time it passed.
- Patient trends can be displayed in three views: measured (numerical), settings, and graphical. Trend data is saved every five minutes for the most recent 48 hour period and every 30 minutes from 48 hours to 14 days.
- Quick Keys let you easily change O2 and total flow settings. You can use Vent Setup keys to enter and/or change multiple settings and hit one button to confirm them.
- You can press any Gas or Vent key to take the machine out of standby and initiate gas flow to start the case. This an esssential element in dealing with emergency cases.
